More than 6,714 entrants in the Brazilian School Games (JEBs) 2023 are in Brasilia to compete for medals in competitions between October 28 and November 8. The championship, created in 1969, is considered the country's main school competition. This year's edition has 18 sports disciplines and two more in demonstration. The competitions are being held in 19 different sports venues in the federal capital. The participants are students aged 12 to 14, enrolled in public and private educational institutions throughout Brazil. The competition also marks the debut of some teachers in large-scale competitions. The aim of the JEBs is to encourage sport among young people and provide enriching experiences for their lives. At the end of the competitions, some athletes will qualify for the South American Games, which will take place in December in Chile. The next edition of the JEBs will be held in Recife in 2024. The full schedule and competition venues are available on the website of the Brazilian School Sports Confederation.
