Brazilian team wins four medals at Paralympic Bocce World Cup in Portugal
At the Paralympic Bocce World Cup in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, the Brazilian team achieved excellent results. Evelyn Oliveira from São Paulo and Mateus Carvalho from Minas Gerais won the gold medal in the BC3 pair category. This competition is aimed at athletes with severe disabilities who use a rail and rely on the help of another player. In the final, they beat the South Korean team 5-2 to take first place. Argentina took third place.
In the women's category, Andreza Vitoria, who is world champion and top of the rankings, won the silver medal in the BC1 category. In this class, athletes can play with their hands or feet and have the option of having an assistant. Andreza was beaten by the second-ranked player, Yee Ting Jeralyn Tan, from Singapore, 4-2. Thailand's Satanan Phromsiri took bronze.
In the men's BC1 category, José Carlos Chagas de Oliveira from São Paulo won the bronze medal. He beat Dutchman Daniel Perez 6-2 in the third-place match. Gold went to Britain's David Smith, the reigning Paralympic champion, and silver to Muhamad Syafa, from Indonesia.
Maciel Santos from Ceará also reached the final, but in the BC2 category, and won the silver medal. He was beaten 7-0 by Thailand's Watcharaphon Vongsa. Third place went to Thailand's Worawut Saengampa.
