CBF calls up young Botafogo star for selection after Nino's injury: find out more!
Find out more about young defender Adryelson's surprise call-up to the Brazilian national team following Nino's injury. Check out the details of this CBF decision and the impact on the Botafogo squad.
Defender Adryelson called up for the national team
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced on Saturday (14) the call-up of defender Adryelson, a Botafogo player, to replace Nino in the Brazilian team. Nino suffered an injury to his left knee during training in Montevideo, in preparation for the game against Uruguay in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Adryelson, 25, was called up to the senior team for the first time. The player is one of the highlights of the leader of the Brazilian Championship, with the best defense in the competition, having conceded just 16 goals in 26 games. Nino's situation will still be monitored by the CBF, and he could be left out of the Libertadores final if the injury is serious.
Concern about Casemiro's absence
In addition to Nino's injury, another concern after Brazil's training in Uruguay was the absence of midfielder Casemiro. He suffered a blow to his right ankle during the match against Venezuela and only did physiotherapy work, without taking part in training at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium. The rest of the team was divided into groups for tactical and positioning activities.
This Monday (16), the Brazilian team will hold its last training session before the game against Uruguay, at the Centenário Stadium. Currently, Brazil occupies second place in the South American Qualifiers, with seven points, behind Argentina which has nine. Uruguay is in fourth place, with four points.
