Brazilian judo makes history at the Pan American Games in Santiago, securing 10 medals in just two days of competition. Check out the exciting achievements and highlights of the Brazilian team!
In just two days, Brazilian judo won ten medals at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. On Saturday (28), there were six podiums, and on Sunday (29), four more: two gold, one silver and one bronze.
In the up to 73 kilos category, Gabriel Falcão won gold and Daniel Cargnin took silver. However, they did not face each other in the final, as Daniel suffered an ankle injury during the semi-final and could no longer compete.
In the under 81 kg category, Guilherme Schmidt faced Chilean Jorge Pérez in the final and won with a wazari and a pin, despite pressure from the local fans.
Sunday's bronze was won by Ketleyn Quadros, in the under-63 kg category, by defeating Colombian Paola Mera with a wazari. Ketleyn, 36, already has an Olympic bronze medal, but this was her first Pan American victory.
However, Brazil did not achieve 100% as on Saturday. Luana Carvalho and Alexia Castilhos lost their fights and did not reach the podium in the under-70 kg category.
This Monday (30), seven more Brazilian judokas will compete in search of medals: Samanta Soares, Eliza Ramos, Beatriz Souza, Rafael Macedo, Kayo Santos, Leonardo Gonçalves and Rafael Silva. The qualifiers start at 10am (Brasília time).
