Brazil wins Olympic berth in men's volleyball
Last Sunday (8), Brazil secured victory in the men's volleyball pre-Olympics, held at the Maracanãzinho gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro.
The match against Italy saw Brazil win sets one and four, 25-23 and 25-17 respectively. Italy, meanwhile, won sets two and three 25-23 and 25-15. The decision went to the tie-break, which ended with the Brazilians winning 15-11.
With this result, Brazil secured second place in Group A behind Germany.
Shortly after celebrating beating the reigning world champions, Renan Dal Zotto announced that he was stepping down as head coach of the Brazilian volleyball team. He had been in charge since 2017 and won the Champions Cup in his first year as coach and the World Cup in 2019. During the 2021 Nations League title campaign, Dal Zotto was recovering from Covid-19, and Carlos Schwanke was the coach.
