Brazil-Argentina clash to take place at Maracanã
The Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro will host the clash between Brazil and Argentina, valid for the 6th round of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) released the information. The match will take place on 21 November, a Tuesday, at 9.30pm (Brasília time).
According to CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, the Maracanã was chosen not only because of its logistics, training and travelling conditions, but also because of the premise of bringing the national team closer to fans from all regions of Brazil. The CBF's management seeks to cover different parts of the country, having already played a match in the North and soon in the Centre-West, with the Southeast being the next region to be covered.
Coach Fernando Diniz had to make two changes to the Brazil squad for the qualifying matches in October. Centre-backs Renan Lodi, from Olympique de Marseille (France), and Vanderson, from Monaco (France), were left out of the squad after talks between the national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, and their respective clubs' medical departments. To replace them, Diniz called up Carlos Augusto, from Inter Milan (Italy), and Yan Couto, from Girona (Spain).
The team's next appointments
Before the derby against Argentina in Maracanã, the Brazilian national team has two more qualifying matches. The first will be against Venezuela on 12 October in Cuiabá, and the second against Uruguay five days later in Montevideo.
