Russian Olympic Committee suspended indefinitely
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Thursday (12) the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) for an indefinite period. In addition, the ROC will no longer be able to receive funding from the Olympic movement. The decision was made due to the inclusion of athletes from areas invaded by military forces, such as Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia, as members of the ROC.
In a statement, the IOC considers this attitude by the Russian Committee to be a violation of the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee, as recognised by the IOC in accordance with the Olympic Charter.
The IOC Executive Board has not yet decided on the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortino, Italy.
However, in March this year, the IOC recommended that international federations allow athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports to take part as neutral athletes in international competitions in individual sports.
