The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) today released the final list of athletes called up for the Parapan American Games, which will be held in Santiago, Chile, from November 17th to 26th. Brazil will be represented by 322 athletes from 17 sports, in addition to nine guide athletes, three runners and two goalkeepers.
This Tuesday, 38 swimmers and seven sports shooters were called up. The selection of athletes for the Parapan American Games took place over three weeks, with prior announcements of athletes from different disciplines, such as athletics, badminton, wheelchair basketball, bocce, cycling, PC football, blind football, goalball, judo, weightlifting, wheelchair rugby, taekwondo, wheelchair tennis, table tennis and archery.
Swimming Team
Swimming is the second sport with the largest number of athletes called up, behind only athletics (60 athletes). The swimming team is made up of 21 men and 17 women. Among those called up are Paralympic and world champions such as Carol Santiago, Gabriel Araújo, Gabriel Bandeira and Talisson Glock.
The head coach of the Brazilian Paralympic swimming team, Leonardo Tomasello, highlighted the expectation of a good performance from the team: “We have a very strong group of swimmers, who are protagonists in the Americas ranking. So, the expectation is the best and highest possible for all 38 athletes to return to Brazil with medals and for us to surpass the performance of the last Parapan”.
In sports shooting, a sport that debuted at the Parapan American Games in Lima 2019, Brazil called up seven athletes, with emphasis on Alexandre Galgani, the country's only representative at the Tokyo Games.
