Venezuela to host the men's soccer Pre-Olympic for the Paris 2024 Games
From January 20 next year, Venezuela will host the men's soccer Pre-Olympic for the Paris 2024 Games. The announcement was made by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) via social media. The competition, which will feature U-23 teams, will be held in the capital Caracas, as well as the cities of Valencia and Barquisimeto.
Reigning two-time Olympic champions Brazil will have to compete for one of the two places at the Paris Games with nine other countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The final of the Pre-Olympics is scheduled for February 11. The Brazilian women's team will not need to take part in the Pre-Olympics, as they have already secured their place by winning the Copa America last year.
Brazil seeks a place at the Paris Games
At the last Men's Pre-Olympic, held in Colombia in January 2021, Brazil came second behind champions Argentina.
The Brazilian men's national soccer team has two consecutive Olympic golds, won at the Rio 2016 Games and in Tokyo. Brazil also won silver at London 2012 and bronze at Beijing 2008.
