Vasco host São Paulo, the reigning Copa do Brasil champions, at the São Januário stadium with the aim of picking up points to try and leave the Brazilian Championship's relegation zone. Rádio Nacional is broadcasting the match live, which is valid for the 26th round of the competition and will be played from 6:30pm (Brasília time) on Saturday (7).
Occupying 17th place in the standings with 26 points, the Cruzmaltino need to win to increase their chances of staying in Serie A. The 4-1 defeat to Santos last Sunday left Vasco in a difficult situation. Therefore, victory would be a breather that would allow them to leave the Z4, depending on the results of the Santos and Goiás matches.

The fact that the match is being played at the São Januário stadium gives Vasco some confidence. With tickets sold out, the fans are expected to turn up in force. Without Chilean midfielder Medel, who was sent off in the defeat to Santos, Vasco should field the following players: Léo Jardim; Pumita, Maicon, Léo and Lucas Piton; Zé Gabriel, Praxedes, Paulinho and Marlon Gomes (Payet); Gabriel Pec and Vegetti.
São Paulo, who have just won the Copa do Brasil title (which guaranteed them a place in the 2024 edition of the Libertadores), are in 10th place in the table with 34 points. The team led by coach Dorival Júnior is also coming off the back of a positive start to the Brazilian season, having beaten Corinthians 2-1 last weekend in Morumbi.
Even without any major pretensions in the Brasileiro, coach Dorival Júnior should field what he has best: Rafael; Nathan, Diego Costa, Alan Franco and Caio Paulista; Pablo Maia, Alisson, Nestor and Wellington Rato; Lucas Moura and Luciano.
